During the last days of the Degeneration, a new form of money took the world into a new era of finance, cryptocurrency. It struggled with volatility at first, but when the Age of War came, and banks were seized and closed down, cryptocurrencies became intensely necessary. None more so than Monero, which offered total anonymity, and a removal of a banking system.

During the reign of Raijin, a huge store of ancient coins, labelled as Drachma, constructed of a gavant and gold alloy were discovered, and the nation of Japan had the idea at the time to tether Monero to the coins to stabilise it. The value of the store of Drachma would be agreed upon across all participating nations, and officials from each nation would routinely verify the quantity of Drachma in the store for security purposes.

There would only ever be a limited supply of Monero that would be in circulation, due to it being tethered to a finite supply of Drachma. However not all of it was in circulation at any one time, and it was drip fed into the economy through regular cryptocurrency mining. The transactions would work in the same way that Monero would, on the blockchain, which kept records of all transactions as well as balances of both Monero and Drachma. Despite the tethering, the transactions of Monero remain totally anonymous, and without the need for banks.
