Description
While there is the Rebuild Initiative aiming to rebuild the world in a beautiful, and culturally rich way, this process is very slow, and so there remains much of the world that is left in ruin. Most of these ruins are abandoned, however there is still a large chunk of society that remains on the inner ring of the ruins, too poor to move to the Rebuild, living in a purgatory. This purgatory had its name whittled down over time, eventually being known as The Purgory.
Details
The Purgory is the area that exists around all cities, that the Rebuild hasn’t quite reached yet. With the population lowered, construction isn’t as fast as it once was, and so not everybody has the privilege of living amongst the rebuilt areas.
The Purgory consists of buildings that have remained since the start of the twenty-first century, lived-in, but not maintained, left to rot along with its inhabitants. Running water and power are a scarcity, and crime is rampant, with minimal police intervention. It is a hotbed for organised crime, and thus a hedonistic society has been created, with countless drug addicts, and prostitutes littering the streets. Honest people and families still largely occupy the Purgory and hold on to the promise that their areas will some day be Rebuilt, but often generations can pass before this happens.
